Claudia Yang was born in Malaysia into a family originating from the Chinese province of Fujian. She took her first piano lessons at the age of five and eventually moved to Europe to become a professional pianist tutored by Dianko Iliew, Paul Badura-Skoda and Ludwig Hoffmann at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, from where she graduated as the joint best pianist of 1997. Claudia has collaborated with orchestras in Central and Eastern Europe, the London Symphony, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony, Tianjin Symphony and Simon Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and appeared as a soloist at leading music festivals around the world. In 2014 the Hungarian Government awarded her the Pro Cultura Hungarica prize for her contribution in propagating Hungarian culture, in particular the music of Liszt. That same year, she collaborated closely with Gyula Fekete on the jointly composed piano concerto Dream of the Red Chamber, which was subsequently recorded in London with the LSO and Muhai Tang. China Voice magazine named Claudia a “Global Chinese of the Year”.
