Gao Manhua: A native of Tianjin, China, Ms. Manhua Gao is a soprano of critical acclaim. Equally at home on opera stages and in concert halls, she is one of the few vocal artists from China who maintains an active schedule on an international level, garnering praises both as an “excellent musician” with “on-button technique and tone,” and as a performer showing “world-class qualities with her artistry, intelligence and musicality.”

She has sung more than 20 leading roles with many major opera houses, among them are: San Francisco Opera Company, the Houston Grand Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater. Her performance of the title roles such as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Violetta in La Traviata, Butterfly in Madama Butterfly are always delgitful. She has also sung Liu in Turandot, Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore, Ginevra in Ariodante, Madame Goldentrill in The Impresario. Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflot, Micaela in Garmen, Elvira in I Puritani, Marianne in Der Rosenkavalier. In October of 2001, Ms. Gao was invited to sing the leading role of the opera, The Thunderstorm in its world premier performance at the Shanghai Grand Opera House. Her performances of Leonora in Il Trovatore with the Hong Kong Opera Company that same year received many praises. As recently as last May, Ms. Gao sang the title role of Madama Butterfly and Violetta with Shanghai Opera Company and Tianjin Symphony Orchestra.

Ms Gao made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1986. As a soloist, Ms Gao has performed with major Symphony Orchestras around world, and has sung the parts in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate, Britten’s War Requiem and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. She returns regularly to China, Hong Kong and Singapore as a concert soloist. Indeed, she is featured prominently as a guest artist in the International Arts Festival in Shanghai the last two years and in Tianjin last May.
