Biography
Maestro Georgi Nikolov, born in 1989 in Bulgaria and long-established in Vienna, is recognized as one of the rising representatives of the Austrian conducting tradition. Having spent nearly half of his life in Austria, he has built a distinguished career that unites the refinement of Viennese classical music with broad international experience.
Originally trained as a cellist, he moved to Vienna at the age of twenty to pursue conducting studies at the Vienna Conservatory, where he graduated in Opera and Symphonic Conducting under some of Austria’s leading professors. Vienna’s rich artistic environment shaped his musical identity and enabled him to collaborate with renowned soloists, orchestras, and institutions.
For ten years, Maestro Nikolov worked closely with the Vienna State Opera Chorus, and for three years with Theater an der Wien, gaining deep insight into the operatic and symphonic repertoire of the Viennese musical tradition. His long-term work in Vienna has positioned him as a conductor appreciated equally for representing Austrian as well as Bulgarian classical culture on the international stage.
Maestro Nikolov has conducted over 100 concerts across 8 major tours in China, performing in the country’s most prestigious concert halls and grand theaters. He has appeared in all major Chinese cities, often multiple times, working with ensembles such as the Vienna Festival Orchestra, New VIS Orchestra, Vienna Classic Orchestra, and the Varna State Opera Orchestra. His charismatic style and elegant interpretations have made him a respected and familiar figure among Chinese audiences.
Internationally, he has led orchestras and productions across Austria, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, and many other European countries. He has participated in prestigious events such as the Salzburg Festspiele and the Bayreuth Festival, strengthening his presence in Europe’s leading cultural circles.
In Bulgaria, Maestro Nikolov is regularly invited as a guest conductor to major opera houses and symphony orchestras, including Opera Plovdiv, Varna Opera, Ruse Opera, the Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra, the Vratsa Symphony Orchestra, and leading ballet companies such as Sofia Ballet and the Varna Opera Ballet. A committed educator, he is often invited as a guest lecturer for conducting students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at both national conservatories in Bulgaria, sharing his knowledge and contributing to the development of young conductors.
