Biography
Mag. Jenny Hou, mezzo-soprano, graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in the singing class of Prof. Fr. Donner, Professor W. Zlateva and Prof. M. Klaushofer. She also worked with Prof. D. Lutz (art song), Prof. R. Nickler (dramatic art) and Prof. C. U. Meier (musical interpretation). In 2013 she graduated with honours. She attended several master-classes held by Cecilia Bartoli and Silvana Bazzoni.
While still a student (during 2007), Jenny Hou debuted in the role of Ramiro in Mozart’s “La Finta Giardiniera” in the Schlosstheatar, Schönbrunn and Yihai Theater in Shanghai, China. In 2012 and 2013 she participated again in productions of the same theatre. Also in the role of Polinesso in Handel ‘s ”Ariodante” and the roles of Lazuli in Chabrier‘s “L‘Étoile” and Sorceress in Purcell‘s ” Dido and Aeneas”.
Jenny Hou toured frequently as a soloist in cantata and oratorial works with the orchestra “Collegium Dorotheum” and “Cantores Suaves” chorus, conducted by Lucio Golino. In one of the great cathedrals of Vienna she has performed mezzo-soprano and alto solos from various oratorios, masses and cantatas by J.S Bach, ” Stabat Mater” by Pergolesi, “Markuspassion” by R. Kaiser and others.
In 2011, Jenny Hou won the third prize of the Second International Competition for song duos in Sofia, and the third prize and special prize at the International master courses competition of the ”Vienna Music Seminar”.
In 2013, the young singer made her debut at the Salzburg Music Festival in” Midsummer Night’s Dream” by F. Mendelssohn- Bartholdy.
In May 2014, at the invitation of the festival ” Austrian Music Weeks ” in Sofia, She played Solo in „The Song of the Earth“(German:Das Lied von der Erde) by Gustav Mahler, cooperating with Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. Some of the orchestras Hou cooperated with are Haydn Sinfonietta Wien Sinfonietta Baden etc.
In May 2016 debuted at the Landestheater Niederbayern in the role of Amneris in Verdi's Aida.
