Biography
REN Zhou Yang is a postgraduate student currently studying at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in Gu Zheng performance major.
Born in 1988, Shandong Province, REN Zhou Yang started Gu Zheng at the age of 6 with Gu Zheng master JIANG Li Wei, who was the vice president of the Shandong Gu Zheng Union at that time. REN Zhou Yang started performing on stage also at the age of 6. He soon got the 3rd place in the Shandong Province Gu Zheng Competition when he was 7. Because of his talent shown at an early stage, REN Zhou Yang became a guest performer in various orchestras since the age of 14. He studied at some of the best primary, junior high and senior high schools in his city. He also met the then national leaders including Mr. JIANG Ze Min when he was the student team leader at his school.
In 2005, REN Zhou Yang finished his high school early with special permission and auditioned for the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He got into the Conservatory with an excellent result from his audition and learned from Ms. WANG Wei ever since. WANG Wei is not only a master in Gu Zheng, but also a well-known education in China. During the bachelor studies at the conservatory, REN Zhou Yang received numerous professional scholarships due to his excellent work in his major. He also won awards in the national and international traditional Chinese music competition:
2007, got silver prize for the ethnic musical instruments in the young professional session and special prize for new composition in the 6th Asian Youth Music Competition
2007, got outstanding prize in the 6th Chinese Golden Bell Award For Music Gu Zheng Compeition
2008, got bronze prize for Young Professional Performers Guzheng Competition in Dun Huang Cup from the “Shanghai Zhi Chun” International Music Festival
2008, got silver prize in ethnic musical instrument competition in youth performers session for Gu Zheng from the 3rd “Wen Hua Schools of Arts” award competition
In 2009, REN Zhou Yang graduated with the highest mark in Gu Zheng major at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and got a Bachelor of Music degree. He was admitted into the postgraduate studies at the same conservatory in the same year after the audition of which he scored the highest mark amongst all others in the same major. REN Zhou Yang entered the 7th Chinese Golden Bell Award For Music in the same year and received outstanding prize for his performance.
REN Zhou Yang has held recitals in various places including Shandong Province, Zhejiang Province and Si Chuan Province. He was also invited to perform overseas and he has travelled to countries including Norway, Denmark and Japan to work with many composers for their new works. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Performed, recorded and produced music programs for Shangdong TV, Jiangsu TV, Dragon TV.
Performed in theatrical “Shu Shan”, “Xi You Ji”, and various of other big commercial events.
Premiered many new works with electronic background music in the “Shanghai Zhi Chun” International Music Festival. Performances showed great style of the combination of modern and classical.
Played music for plays “Mu Dan Ting” and “Yu Fei Feng”, a breakthrough in the performance history as REN Zhou Yang combined Gu Zheng with special singing in that excellent performance.
Over the years REN Zhenyang had explored in many ways of Gu Zheng playing. The sound he makes is genuine, full of passion, spurting a spring of vitality, and extremely lyrical. He is regarded as a highly skilled Gu Zheng player for virtuoso Gu Zheng repertoire.
