Biography
WUT Man-chung was born in Guilin, Guangxi in 1942. At the age of 5, he moved to Beijing with his parents and began his lifelong music journey there. In 1975, he migrated to Hong Kong and worked as a freelance composer. During the mid-1970s' to the early 1990s', WUT wrote a large number of sensational pieces of music, including the symphonic poem "Ambush on All Sides", the song cycle "Four Poems by LI Bai", "The Pamir Capriccio" for harmonica, the orchestral work "Princess Ch'ang P'ing Fantasy Overture" and the song cycle "Huang Shan, the magnificent mountain", etc. Accordingly, WUT received notable honors in Taiwan as well as in Hong Kong from his works, which were gradually becoming popular and were performed and recorded all over the world.
