Biography
Tony Yun, piano
Tony Siqi Yun was born in Toronto, Canada in 2001. He began his piano studies at the age of four. He entered the middle school affiliated to Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 2011, working with Prof. Jin Zhang, as well as Dulwich College Beijing for academics. Tony is currently studying at the Juilliard Pre-College Division, under Prof. Matti Raekallio.
The young pianist can already look back at an extraordinary concert career: On November 14th, 2014, as the prime event of the Third Polish Culture Festival, Tony
performed Chopin e minor piano Concerto in collaboration with the China Philharmonic Orchestra at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and achieved outstanding success. His performance was well recognized by the Polish delegation especially by the chairman of Beethoven Association of Poland. In the same month, Tony was invited to give a solo concert at Shenzhen University as part of the Shenzhen International Piano Festival. Tony participated in the ‘Silk Road’ New Year’s Concert hosted by CCTV and the China Philharmonic Orchestra on December 30th, 2014. In October 2015, Tony toured with the China Philharmonic Orchestra and performed Mozart No.20 piano Concerto in d minor in Shanghai.
Tony played Tchaikovsiky no.1 piano concerto in B-flat minor with the Cleveland Orchestra in the prestigious Severance Hall in July 2018.
Tony has given many solo recitals throughout China. He gave a solo recital in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing for the Committee of 100 in July 2016. Tony was also honorably invited by Animato Association to perform at the renowned Salle Cortot concert hall in Paris in Feb. 2015.
In the year of 2017, Tony has given a solo tour in June in Ireland and Spain, and followed with other solo recitals at the Opera & Concert Hall of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in August, and at the Juilliard School in October. In November 14, Tony gave a solo recital at Steinway Hall in New York.
He took part in many of the recordings and DVDs of tutorial demonstration for Central Conservatory of Music performance examinations. Tony was featured on WQXR radio broadcast, China Daily News, and Taiwan Eastern Television.
Tony Yun is a laureate of domestic and international youth piano competitions. His awards include: First prize and Audience prize in 2018 Cooper International Competition for Piano; Rosalyn Tureck prize and Evgeny Kissin Grand Prize in the Fifth Rosalyn Tureck International Bach Competition; Gold medal in CCTV (China National TV Station) piano competition for young pianist; Second Prize and Silver Medal in the International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Ukraine; First Prize in “Peal River﹒Kayserburg” National Youth Piano Competition in China; and many others.
