Zhu Gongqi was born in Yuyao Zhejiang. He graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music. He was a National Class A violinist and a member of Chinese Musicians Association.

He was born in a music family, and has been learning the violin and the piano since his childhood, and was admitted to the national music juvenile class in 1946, major in violin. After entering the Central Conservatory of Music in 1950, he has been taught by an Austrian violin professor Padosca, Ma Sicong and Chu Yaowu. During his study life, he always did solo or duet performance on public concerts. He started working in the symphony orchestra at the Central Orchestra in 1958, and mainly worked on playing symphony, and participated in solo and duet performance meanwhile.

He played the violin concerto “Butterfly Lovers” in cooperation with the famous conductor Li Delun in 1964., and he did solo performance during the performance tour with the solo group of the Central Orchestra, and played chamber music in Beijing and Wuhan in cooperation with a German trumpet professional in the same year.

He used to be the principal of the small orchestra of the Central Orchestra during the performance in North Korea, and the principal of the unison group for many years. He played as a violin soloist in the performance of Bach’s “Brandenburg concerto No. 4” in the concert for commemorating the anniversary of the arrival of Bach in 1985.

He has visited some nations, such as Japan, North Korea, the United States, Spain, Malaysia and South Korea, and some regions, such as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan with the Symphony the Central Orchestra. And he is conducting string music in the Orchestra Academy at the Central Conservatory of Music.
