Gao Weijie: Shao Music II – for 6 folk music performers

Introduction

Shao II is regarded as the sister piece of Shao I based on the same idea, but with some innovations in the composition techniques. It is the first practical application of his invention of non-octave cycle of artificial scale. The music also uses plenty of support sound techniques, creating a rich oriental multi-sound effects and circumstances.

The music was composed in 1995 at the invitation of French Presences, 96'Festival de creation musicale, first performed by Huaxia Chamber Music Orchestra in 1995 in Paris.
