The online classical CD retailer announces publication of a print magazine for classical music fans

ArkivMusic, is expanding its offerings for classical music aficionados and professionals with the publication of a new bimonthly print magazine called LISTEN: Life with Classical Music. Beginning with the March/April issue, the magazine will profile musicians and music travel destinations, among other features, and include recommendations of recordings, books and films. As a lifestyle magazine for classical music, LISTEN is the only publication of its kind in the U.S. targeted for this passionate niche audience.

“Millions of people across North America have an interest in, even a passion for, classical music, and yet the genre has all but disappeared from the mainstream media,” stated ArkivMusic President Eric Feidner. “Just because the large corporations that control what we are exposed to on TV, radio and in print can’t find a way to make money in the genre doesn’t mean there isn’t any interest. There is considerable demand for a publication that caters to and cultivates the interest of this significant population.”

Feidner is confident that a print magazine is viable even in today’s challenged economic marketplace. “We've been running online companies since 1995 and know full well how it has revolutionized our lives in countless ways. However, there is still a place for quality print publications and, in our specific circumstance, we are servicing a population that has been starved for many years.”

LISTEN will be published every other month by ArkivMusic, which since 2002 has established itself as America’s leading source for classical music CDs and DVDs, offering the widest selection of classical recordings available anywhere. The magazine will be editorially independent from the music retail company, but will take advantage of the extensive ArkivMusic customer base for distribution and promotion.

“LISTEN celebrates our community and offers a closer look at some of its artists and citizens,” says Editor in Chief Ben Finane. “In our March/April launch issue, classical musicians Isabel Bayrakdarian, Danielle de Niese, Joyce DiDonato, Leon Fleisher, Hélène Grimaud and Alexandre Thiraud share their thoughts on music and life.” Finane has organized the magazine into sections called “Music & Life,” “Discovery,” “Recommended” and “Remembering.” The premiere issue also includes a spotlight on Seattle’s music scene and fifteen questions for Met Opera impresario Peter Gelb.

LISTEN’s cover price is $4.95. A special half-price subscription offer is available for six issues at $14.85.
