Biography
Professor Yuankai BAO (born in 1944), composer and music educator, graduated from Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in 1967. He started his teaching career at Tianjin Conservatory of Music in 1973, and, chaired the Institute of Arts of Xiamen University from 2005 to 2015.
Professor Bao’s social responsibilities include: Deputy Director of the Composition Committee of the Chinese Musicians Association, Editor of Music Research, as well as Judge for the “Golden Bell Awards”.
For his dedication and achievements towards music education and composition, Professor Bao was one of the first experts to receive the State Council Special Grant and the “Outstanding Music Educator Award” from the Chinese Ministry of Culture. In 2012, Professor Bao received the prestigious “Xiamen University Nanqiang Award for Outstanding Contributions”.
In Professor Bao’s composition, he presents Chinese traditional music cultural with western composition skills. His works have been staged both domestically and internationally and his recordings have been released by such publishers as DG, EMI,PHILIPS, DECCA and HUGO. His works also were selected in music textbooks of Chinese middle school and elementary school.
Prof.Bao has engaged in music teaching for more than 40 years, most of his students have became famous composers and educators nowadays.
