Gao Weijie: Thoughts of Sun Orchestral Music

Introduction

This piece is composed for Dancing Director Yue Shiguo, according to the readapted dancing poem based on Cao Yu’s famous Drama SUNRISE. “The sun rises and darkness is left to the other side. The sun is not ours though, we’re going to sleep…” The music is composed in tragically poetic style, ignoring plot description, emphasizing psychological outline, reflecting the women’s eagerness for the bright, they lived in the dark ages, undergoing devastation and humiliation, and finally saw their hopes vanishing, demonstrating their humiliation lives and the chaste death.
