Zhao Jiping: Symphony No.1

Introduction

Zhao Jiping can be rightly considered as China's John Williams, boasting the critically acclaimed scores for some of the most popular arthouse films from China's Fifth Generation Filmmakers. In addition to his prolific output for cinema and television, Zhao has written many works for the concert hall. Zhao's First Symphony is written in a broadly tonal/Romantic idiom (think Chinese Howard Hanson...). A wordless chorus joins in the finals for a sweeping, cinematic conclusion.
